Hi! Do you mean a solar or a lunar eclipse?
The one happening on 20th March will be a total solar eclipse (I’m really looking forward to it, we should see it at about 75% coverage here in South-West England. Hopefully there won’t be too many clouds!).
A solar eclipse can only happen at new moon, when the Sun, the Moon and the Earth are in conjunction and all align in a straight line. The eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth and the Moon blocks the Sun.
On 20th March in the Faroe Island and in Svalbard the eclipse will be total, which means that the Sun will be completely covered by the Moon.

I agree with Alice’s explanation! I hope you get to see the eclipse where ever you are! 🙂
