Question: Why does magma have high amounts of nickel and chromium ?

  1. The composition of magma is based on what melted to produce it. some magmas have very high nickel and chromium levels because the magma was formed when the mantle melted and the mantle contains lots of nickel and chromium. If your magma is formed by melting of continental crust instead, then there will be much less nickel and chromium and more silica instead!
