Hi!
The Mediterranean Sea is an evaporative basin mainly because of the latitudes at which it is located. Here evaporation exceeds precipitation and river runoff, but its connection with the Atlantic ocean via the Strait of Gibraltar balances this loss of water.
The Sahara Desert is located in an even drier and hotter climatic zone. Once again, this is mainly because of its latitude.
The main influence of the Sahara Desert on the Mediterranean Sea is probably the presence of Saharan dust blown by winds, which can at times reach the Mediterranean basin.
