Hi there!
No, not really. How long an earthquake lasts is determined by the processes underground. A lot of factors play a role in this game: for example how much energy is released by an earthquake, or which type of rocks can be found in the area of an earthquake. In sedimentary basins for example, earthquakes can last longer. So it’s not really important wether the earthquake happens in a desert or in the mountains. 🙂
All the best,
Andi
